140 CHARACTERS

140 CHARACTERS is a really exciting project with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Community. It's a partnership between Norwich Pride, the Writers' Centre Norwich, Shelly Telly and the Forum Trust.

The plan is to find 140 people (“characters”) to tell us their coming out stories in 140 CHARACTERS or less – a “tweet” on the website Twitter.

I'm working with a wonderful poet called Vince Laws and we're running micro-moviemaking workshops to inspire people to make films of their stories lasting just 12 SECONDS long. I've set up a Shelly Telly page on the website 12 SECONDS to experiment making my own micro-movies.

The 140 CHARACTERS show will be on at FUSION in the Forum from 11-23 January 2010. FUSION is Europe's biggest, free public-access screen so we are very proud to have our show there. We hope to take 140 CHARACTERS around the country on DVD and plasma screens throughout 2010.

140 CHARACTERS is interactive – this means that people visiting the show can also send in their coming out stories and they will appear on screen. We are very keen for friends and families of LGBT people to tell their side of the story too. You can email me your story at shell@shellytelly.co.uk

One of the key things we want to capture is that Coming Out isn't just good for the individual, it's good for everyone around them too. It might be painful but the world is a better place afterwards. You can read the LGBT History Monthstories we've got so far at www.Twitter.com/OUT140

February is LGBT History Month - download the leaflet by clicking the picture on the right.
